Gender inequalities in Kenya

The topic of this thesis is a gender inequality in Kenya. The main goal is to identify a Kenya's position within the East African Community in term sof gender inequality. The position is identified through descriptive comparison of gender indexes and other indicators, and furthermore through their achieved results within the Millennium Development Goals, particularly those focused on gender issues. Another comparison is held among the members states of East African Community on the basis of government's approach towards such issues. Second goal of the thesis is to analyse the gender inequality in Kenya. Specifically the main causes and factors which influence the inequality in Kenya. I tis important as the causes and factors of such inequality have negative effect on the relation between socio-economic growth and decreasing gender inequality. In other words, the thesis analyses the gender inequality on two level - "externalʼʼ (international comparison) and "internalʼʼ (discussion of the conditionality of gender inequality in Kenya). East African Community and Theories of Regional Integration

This paper presents a case study of a regional integration called East African Community (EAC) that associates Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda later joined Rwanda and Burundi. The main research question is the reason for creation of the EAC. Congruence method is used to answer this question with further investigation to confirm existence of the causal relationship. There are three theories used to formulate a hypothesis concerning formation of the EAC - neofunctionalism, realism and liberal theory of international relation in the form reformulated by Andrew Moravcsik. Neofunctionalism cannot explain emergence of the EAC as strong supranational actor, key neofunctionalists feature, is not present. Spillover process also does not occur. Realism also fails to provide an explanation, although the end of the Cold War brings shift in global power structure. East Africa is also endangered by economic marginalization caused by integration of other parts of the continent. However intrastate and regional political instability and security threats were more important at that time. The EAC also does not correspond with the notion of only low politics integration. Zaměření rozvojové politiky vůči zemím Východoafrického společenství (EAC)

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá historií a vývojem rozvojové politiky ES/EU a jejími nástroji, které byly vyvinuty ke specifickým potřebám prioritní skupiny zemí Afriky - Karibik - Tichomoří. Z této skupiny zemí se práce blíže věnuje Východoafrickému společenství (EAC) a ekonomickému a politickému vývoji jeho členských zemí od získání nezávislosti v 60. letech minulého století. Třetí kapitola se výhradně zabývá novým nástrojem rozvojové politiky ES/EU v podobě Dohod o ekonomickém partnerství a jeho dopady na země obou zmíněných regionů.
